For 2008 we have a new and expanded committee which includes two female members in an official capacity - a big welcome to Nina and Sheena. The committee is still predominantly male but at least it is a start. We also now have two female Level 1 coaches.

Newark Canoe Club is a very active club that tries to meet the canoeing and kayaking requirements of all ages in the Newark and Lincoln areas. We are a very family orientated club with a fun-packed events list for both paddlers and non-paddlers.

We Meet During the summer months Newark Canoe Club meet on a Sunday afternoon between 2pm and 4:30pm at Thurlby Lake, which is about halfway between Newark and Lincoln on the A46 (Click here for a map). This is a superb venue with clubhouse, ample car parking, a large landing stage and a ramp for easy access to the water. Directions at the bottom of the page.

During the winter we arrange pool sessions on Saturday evenings. Details are posted on the Events page

As a club we are always looking to expand our coaching base and during 2007 we ran Level 1 and Level 2 training courses. Additions to the coaching personnel during 2007 were as follows:

4 Level 1 Coaches, 5 Level 2 Trainee Coaches (for those who don't know, a Level 2 Trainee is a Level 1 with extra whistles and bells), 1 Level 2 Coach.

If anyone wishes to become a coach do speak to us as we would be delighted to help you achieve your objectives.

Newark Canoe Club covers a wide range of interests. As a club, we try and meet those interests by providing appropriate trips for all abilities within the club. We often run river and canal trips, open canoe trips, sea and surfing trips and whitewater trips as well as internal club training courses and courses with outside agencies.

The significant increase in our qualified coaching base during 2007 means that we can now look forward to further expansion and diversification of club activities.

We are a BCU Affiliated Club

Directions to Thurlby Lake - map here

The Swinderby roundabout is approx 6 miles north of Newark and 5 miles south of Lincoln. It is the only roundabout on that stretch of the A46 dual carriageway.

From Lincoln drive south down the A46 to the Swinderby roundabout and turn LEFT

From Newark drive north up the A46 to the Swinderby roundabout and turn RIGHT

Go straight through Witham St Hughs until you reach a T junction after three quarters of a mile. Turn right onto Norton Lane and follow the road for just over half a mile. You will go round a sharp LH bend and the entrance to Thurlby Lake will be in front of you on a sharp RH bend. The Newark Canoe Club sign is beside the gate.

Website

The website is designed to serve two purposes:

bullet

Be a valuable resource and communication resource for club members

bullet

Promote the club specifically and paddlesport in general

It is the club website and contributions are invited from everyone. Development of the site will be on-going and a forum will be added if there is sufficient demand. If you spot any errors, something doesn't work or you just wish to make suggestions for improvement then please email webmaster@newarkcanoeclub.org.uk.
